Anthropology and Mental Health Interest Group Paper Prizes

The Anthropology and Mental Health Interest Group (AMHIG) announces its first annual Graduate Student and Professional Paper Prizes.  Paper topics are open, but must address some aspect of the sociocultural dimensions of mental health. Papers may be comparative, applied, and/or theoretical in approach.  The winner of each category will receive $100 and a certificate which will be awarded at the SMA Business Meeting at the AAA in Minneapolis in November 2016. In addition, the winner of the Graduate Student prize will have the opportunity to publish his/her submission in the journal Culture, Medicine, and Psychiatry (Springer).

 

Requirements:

-       Graduate students must be enrolled in an M.A. or PhD program at the time of submission

-       The Professional category includes anthropologists, scholars from other disciplines, and/or healthcare practitioners (e.g., psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers)

-       To qualify, you must be a member of the American Anthropological Association and be affiliated with AMHIG on the Society for Medical Anthropology’s Global Directory website (registration is free): http://www.medanthro.net/amhig/members-2/.

-        Submissions must be under 9000 words, including citations and appendices

-       Papers will be evaluated for originality, contribution to the field, and writing style appropriate for a manuscript in an academic journal.

 

Deadline extended: Submissions are due June 30, 2016 to aamhig@gmail.com

 

The winners will be announced at the AMHIG Business Meeting.  Winners will be informed by the beginning of September.
