I am a DPhil student at the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK. I did my BA at Oxford in Human Sciences, an MA in Gender and International Development at the Institute of Development Studies in Brighton, and now a DPhil in Development Studies/Anthropology. My DPhil research is on the dynamics between French state schooling and Qur'anic schooling among a Muslim community in northern Senegal. Although I am not engaging with policy makers directly, my work has policy-making relevance, particularly regarding state and NGO discourses around Education For All and how to meet demands for religious education. I also work in the south of Senegal on a project which uses an intergenerational and elder-friendly approach to increasing child participation and protection, and the sharing of indigenous knowledge, within the communities there.
