Applying Anthropology to Supranational Networks

Description of Group “Applying Anthropology to supranational networks and systems.”Members of this group share ideas about the evolution of cultural systems above the level of states. Upon observing the network of corporations that dominated the mining systems in southern Africa in the 1960s Alvin Wolfe described what he saw as a “supranational system”resulting from the interaction of political states and business corporations. As this evolution proceeded throughout the twentieth century and…See More

US Supreme Court has put us on a slippery slope toward Corporate Control of American Culture

Corporations vs People. For some decades since Presidents Theodore and then Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman did what they could to protect us from the worst of corporate powers, America has been sliding down the slippery slope, regular people losing freedom while corporations, not real people at all but formal entities created by legal leger de main, are being given more and more power..The Supreme Court decision in January 2010 flatly declared that the money they use in politics is the…See More

Evolution of Supranational Networks

The SfAA Community Group Home Page (http://community.sfaa.net/group/applying-anthropology-to-supranational-networks) says that our Group “Applying Anthropology to Supranational Networks” has had NO  messages in the part of their system that is officially labeled “Discussion”!  That’s not good, but we have had comments in other parts, like “Pages,” “Text boxes,” and “Comment Wall.” I know that we have…See More

  Dear Dr. Wolfe,

Hello! I hope all is well with the family. I like your article.

I am sorry; I am just joining the discussions now. Due to technical problems, I was not able to post messages.

Here is my comment. I think you have strong arguments to consider here!

Especially, when you write about Corporate Rights and Religious Rites viewed as Human Beings. I think you are right. It seems like the business corporation are treated as human beings in that sense we can see them as cultural artifacts. I would like to link the discussions to Globalization and capitalism. But maybe some other time.

Like Jone Stone, I would agree that Wolfe is right!  Ah!

Thanks

Annie Ngana Mundeke

Corporate Rights and Religious Rites

Having decided that business corporations are human enough to deserve free speech and the right to participate in political elections, the Supreme Court of the United State is now considering whether corporations also have religious beliefs that warrant recognition and respect for their religious behavior – as if they were real human beings.
